Predicted protected area downsizing impedes conservation progress across terrestrial ecoregions in the tropics and subtropics

We explored how protected area downsizing impacts conservation target achievement by using the protection equality and mean target achievement metrics. We found mean target achievement always decreases with downsizing, and downsizing often occurs in underrepresented habitats which decreases protection equality.
